The ARM's acquisition of ARM already planned by Nvidia, on whose developments around microchip architectures, among others Samsung, Qualcomm and Apple produce their chips and pay royalties for it has failed. This reports among others Spiegel Online or also Ars Technica. Sayings about whether one of both arms is tuned, we spare ourselves at this point - but certainly none of the two companies will look at much worse times because of the non-acquisition. The main reason for the failure of the takeover are competitive concerns.
Nvidia plus arm = too powerful
An obstacle to the acquisition was the extremely large market power generated by the merger - apparently authorities that control competition already spoke out of the scenes, whether such a takeover is even approved. This also suggests the official message from Arm and Nvidia. NVIDIA has apparently had to repel certain other areas first to weaken itself and do not overpower in the sum. This was due for NVIDIA to high price, and appeasement on the part of Nvidia, the benefits of the rights to the arm technology did not use market power-abusive. What arm now project, you will find below in the text.
In the run-up to the takeover, even the FTC, the US trade authority, had filed a lawsuit, as the threatening super company could hinder other companies, according to the view of the FTC innovation. Incidentally, the Microchip specialist arm based in the United Kingdom belongs to an investor group called Softbank from Japan, who wanted to take about 60 billion dollars by taking over. Now Softbank is apparently planning an IPO for AMR to get in this way to liquidity. Whether a similarly high profit as well as by the acquisition can come about is questionable - but poor and possible benefits remain through ongoing businesses in the hand of Softbank.
