Responsible for the game is Daybreak Game Company Daughter Dimensional Ink Studios, known for DC Universe Online.
The MMO genre is more versatile than sometimes think. There are not only fantasy and sci-fi games, but also titles in which their superheroes embodies. Currently, DC Universe is still running online as well as Champions Online, earlier there was also City of Heroes and Marvel Heroes. And Marvel is the right keyword, because Daybreak Game Company, the company behind free-to-play titles like Planet side 2 and Ever quest, has announced that an AAA-MMO is in progress on the basis of Marvel Comics.
Officially announced is not the game yet, but it is mentioned in a presentation of END Global 7, a Swedish holding company that belongs to Daybreak Game Company. It says, the title is developed by Dimensional Ink Studios from Austin, Texas — the studio responsible for DC Universe online. Yes, the people who so far look after the game around Batman, Superman and Co, now take care of an online role play around their competition from Marvel. However, there is no further information about the content and the Marvel Universe is great. For example, a pure X-Men game could be purely theoretically.
The only further information that is available to the project is that Jack Emmett guides the development. The founded together with some other Cryptic Studios and was decisively involved in the development of City of Heroes. He was also involved in the production of Marvel Universe online. This was in the 2000s for PC and Xbox 360 in development, but the work was set in 2009 and out of the project developed champions online. Daybreak Game Company worked a few years ago at a Marvel MMO, but it was never completed. Only Marvel Heroes from Gazillion Entertainment saw the light in the world, but the servers went offline 2017.
